FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are you a certified (sworn) translator with a round official seal?

Yes, I am. Since 2015, I have been a certified translator of Czech, English, and Russian with a round official seal of the Czech Republic. I am registered in the official Register of Certified Translators and Interpreters of the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic. I am a member of the Chamber of Certified Translators and Interpreters of the Czech Republic.

How do I order a certified translation?

Each order must be entered into the electronic Register of Certified Translations of the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic and receive a unique registration number.

For this purpose, the following customer’s details must be entered into the Register:

  1. first and last name of the individual/legal entity;
  2. date of birth/legal entity ID number;
  3. the address of the individual (in any country) / the registered address of the legal entity.
I need a printed certified translation (hard copy). What do I have to provide you with?

According to the Czech law, I must bind the document with the translation and, therefore, make holes in it with a hole punch. There are three options. An official translation can be bound with:

  • the original document,
  • an officially certified copy of the document (from a notary, Czech Point counter of the Czech Post, or the local authority (úřad),
  • a photocopy or printout of the document in digital (electronic) form.

Please note: You first need to find out which of these options is acceptable to the authority to which you are submitting the certified translation.

Do you make certified copies of documents?

No, I don’t. In the Czech Republic, certified translators are not authorized to certify the accuracy of document copies. I am only responsible for the quality of the translation. If the translation cannot be bound with the original, you need to bring me or send by post an officially certified copy of the document.

Do you do certified translations in electronic form?

Yes, I do. Since January 1, 2021, in accordance with Act No. 354/2019 Coll., certified translations can also be obtained in electronic form. Such translations are prepared in PDF/A format and meet the same requirements as translations in paper form. Instead of a round official seal, they contain an electronic signature and are a fully-fledged alternative to a traditional paper certified translation. An electronic certified translation can be converted to paper form at any time at a Czech Point branch of the Czech Post. I have a certificate of qualified electronic signature with a time stamp. According to the law, the customer’s consent is required to perform an electronic translation.

Please note: You first need to find out whether the agency you are submitting it to will accept a certified electronic translation.

Can I get a certified translation of only part of a document?

The customer decides what exactly needs to be translated. The title of the translation and the translator’s clause indicate that it is a “partial translation”. A certified translator is not allowed to provide a summary of the document’s contents.
